Department of Commerce

Commerce subject was first established in 1995, with only general course as an option. Keeping in mind the demands of the local people for introduction of the honours course in commerce honours course was introduced in the year 2001.At present the department conducts B.Com honours as well as B.Com general course. The student of this department also participates in NCC units and NSS wings of this college.

At present there are four part time teachers along with one full time teacher who work along the department with full commitment. The teachers are cooperative and dedicated. There is a strong bonding between the teachers and students. So the students can easily interact with the teachers and express their grievances and problems.

There are sufficient books of different subjects and few journals in the library and a computer lab with adequate numbers of computers. The teachers regularly visit and practical classes are taken in the lab.

In addition to the traditional lecture method, the department usually follows compulsory academic calendar. Continuous evaluation of their progress is done trough class tests, supplementary exams etc. Special classes are conducted for the betterment of students. The students are upgraded through participation in seminars, quiz, debates, and through inter departmental cultural competitions organised by the students union of college, following the advice of teachers. The modules framed by the affiliating universities in syllabus are generally followed by the department. The teachers of the department also welcome discussions regularly from the students consequently.

It should be mentioned worthy that the success rate of the students belonging to this department in the various examinations conducted by the universities is praiseworthy.

Students passing through this department have been involved in various higher education courses such as M.Com, M.BA, Human Resource Management, Company secretary, C.A, ICMA. The pass out students of the department are engaged in a variety of professions like Accountant, Financial Manager, Marketing Manager, etc in private sectors. Few students are also engaged in Public sectors like Banking, Rail, L.I.C, Defence, etc.

The department plans to

  1. Increase the number of books in the library sufficiently.
  2. Subscribe more journals and magazines related to business and commerce, management etc.
  3. Make the use of projectors accessible to the students.
  4. Introduce audio-visual programmes as far as possible.
  5. Organize national seminars at least once in a year.

Introduce job-oriented courses like GST.
